Pauline – end of week 18

How I’m feeling:

I am feeling good after a positive review with Dr Sam this week.

Weight loss update:

I lost 0.2 kilos this week making my total 18.4 Kilos. That’s nearly 3 stone :)

Biggest challenge in the last week:

For the first time since I started the programme, I had a strong craving for a Starbucks fancy coffee. Instead of giving into temptation, I got creative and made my own coffee treat at home using the vanilla milkshake sachet with a shot of espresso coffee. It really hit the spot!

Biggest success in the last week:

I was absolutely over the moon this week when I found out from at my review with Dr Sam that I had gained some muscle. This has reinforced my commitment to keep up the daily walks, making sure I include some hills!!

Jon – end of week 18

How I’m feeling:

I am feeling good after my review with Dr Sam this week and she has moved me on to the stabilisation stage.  This means the focus now is on physical activity - fortunately I am buzzing and have plenty of energy for trying out new types of exercise.

Weight loss update:

I didn’t lose weight this week - however overall, I have dropped by 26kg (which is 4 stone).

Biggest challenge in the last week:

This week for the first time I worried that I might have put some weight back on because the scales at home had not gone down. After having my review which was really positive and getting an update on my body fat, I felt reassured. The discussion with Dr Sam reminded me how much progress I have made over the past 4 months which helped reframe my mindset.

Biggest success in the last week:

My InBody results are the best they have ever been!! I was very happy to see my percentage body fat has dropped and Dr Sam explained that the visceral fat (which is the fat inside my tummy) is now in the healthy which is amazing.

Last week I mentioned in our update that I would be disappointed if my InBody showed that I had lost muscle. I feel that I have really upped my game with much more walking and other physical activities… Well, I needn’t have worried because not only did I not lose muscle, but I increased it. My overall InBody score has increased which is phenomenal because this means my fitness levels are improving.

If someone had said to me at the start of the programme that we both would be able to go for a 10km walk with lots of hills, not break much sweat and actually really enjoy it, I would have laughed and told them they were crazy!!

A challenge we have set ourselves is to find a new route every time, giving us a change of scenery and a chance to explore – much easier to do when the weather is good. We love looking at all the beautiful houses and imagine which we would buy if we won the lottery...! I have also managed to do a couple of dance sessions - my goal for May is to try and do at least 3 per week.

I also had my review this week – overall the improvement in my results is astonishing. Now that I am on Stabilisation, my challenge is to maintain my weight but improve my muscle levels. This means pushing myself to do more resistance exercise which is likely to be a challenge because I do not like gyms!! Dr Sam discussed the benefits of doing small workouts at home and she has set me a challenge of 25 press ups per day which I don’t have to do all at once (thankfully). I shall keep you updated on my progress with this and might even include a little video… Dr Sam suggested using a personal trainer who would show me how to do the exercises properly as well as teach me some workout plans to do at home. In the meantime, I am checking out YouTube for ideas and investing in some simple workout equipment that I can use at home.

I absolutely understand that building muscle is really going to help me achieve the body shape that I would like – so my biggest challenge is to develop a regular habit that I can keep up and enjoy. Never having done this type of exercise before means I am pushing the edge of my comfort zone, but I am really motivated to do this because I haven’t felt this good and this healthy for years.
