Week 12: Pauline & Jon's Weight Loss Diary

Pauline – end of week 12

How I’m feeling:
This week has been particularly tough as I have been dealing with some personal issues and so I have struggled with all sorts of cravings for comfort/junk food.

Weight loss update:
So exactly the same as last week I lost 0.4kg so overall I have now lost 12.8kg which I can officially now say I have lost 2 stone in total and that makes me very happy.

Biggest challenge in the last week:
Not turning to comfort food this week while dealing with a particularly difficult situation. 

Biggest success in the last week:
Reaching the 2 stone mark in my weight loss.

Jon – end of week 12

How I’m feeling:
I am feeling great and in a very good head space at the moment.

Weight loss update:
I lost 1.3kg this week - so to date I have lost 20.8kg which is 3 stone and 4 pounds

Biggest challenge in the last week:
I find it difficult being on step 2 when Pauline isn’t so I have felt extremely guilty every time I have had actual food for my supper when she can’t especially when I know what a tough week she has had.

Biggest success in the last week: Pauline told me that when I sleep now I no longer make a heavy breathing sound which she said sounded quite unhealthy and would concern her but that has completely gone now.

While Jon and I were discussing what this weeks blog should be about it occurred to me that for the past few weeks one particular word keeps popping up in my updates and that word is STRESS!! Not only are we planning a wedding, but we are doing it in the middle of a global pandemic and because of the different restrictions in place we still do not know 100% what our wedding will look like on June 20th and that is a very stressful anxious position to be in.  On top of all of this I can no longer use my go-to coping mechanism which is eating my feelings with junk food. I am not ashamed to say that when something has come up or happened with the planning recently it has taken all my strength not to to utter those words “sod it lets get a takeaway” as in the past we wouldn’t have thought twice. 

Obviously being on Temple Vie means certain foods are just a no go however it’s not about what is and is not allowed its more that I have found other coping mechanisms that does not involve food but still helps me relax and de stress. One of my favourite things to do is head outside for a walk in the fresh air and listen to either a good audio book or some of my favourite tunes or meet my friend after her work and walk home together and have a good blether.  Both of these helps clear my head and look at things in a different perspective and everything just seem less difficult and another thing this does is stop any cravings as I always feel so good after doing some exercise that I no longer need anything sugary or fatty. I do have some other go to options such as watching some trashy TV or reading my kindle but for me getting outside and doing a bit of activity is the best solution every time and it keeps me away from the comfort food.

As a typical male I don’t really allow myself to be stressed although in the past I have dealt with anxiety and one thing I will say is since starting my weight journey I have had no issues like this at all.  I would say about 90% of the time I am very laid back but of course there will be the odd occasion where that is not the case.  I agree totally with Pauline that getting out for a walk and fresh air is the best solution to clear the head and I try and do that most days whether its just me and my podcasts or the two of us might head out after work for a wander.

As we are now 11 weeks away from the big day, I predict a lot of walking in our future...
